There’s a phrase in my language called ‘khawtlang lunglen’ which literally translates into ‘communal/universal melancholy/nostalgia’.
Its when you miss no one or nothing in particular, and yet you feel an elusive longing for something…
It’s what makes our lonely bachelors pen songs and poetry, and makes our lonely maids (like yours truly) gaze out their windows at the clouds obscuring a crescent moon.
its what I feel everytime an old, obscure song comes up on the radio; what I feel when we have one of our innumerable power cuts and the neighbourhood kids dust off their guitars and sing old, old songs under the moonlight.
One of those feelings that are so universal, yet so hard to render into words.
I feel it tonight, and I miss all of you, and yet, I miss none of you in particular. I miss a certain way of life, but cant pinpoint what exactly it is I miss about it…
Have read stories about struggling artists, how they have to face rejection after rejection, how they are told to get more exposure first, when no one is willing to give them that exposure in the first place anyway. Which is why, am recommending a band I don’t even know (Farewell Fighter) instead of John Mayer, despite the fact that I loooove John. Not that I’m going to support every struggling Tom, Dick and Mary band out there, but Farewell sounds like a really good band. John’s already made it, and his star doesn’t look like its waning.
I think its important to give a leg up to the ‘underdogs’, if they’re deserving, that is, though its debatable who exactly is deserving or not. Anyway, here’s to Farewell Fighter, may your dreams come true, and to John Mayer, may you continue to shine.

Yep. That’s us. Right next to John Mayer. This says two things…
1. YOU GUYS are amazing. Thank you so much for recommending us.
2. We’re only 3 recommendations away from BEATING John Mayer. Throw us some love? ;) haha
John Mayer rules btw. No offense to him. But you should still recommend us so we can beat him!
Whoaaahhh!!! Now am in a quandary. I love, love love Jmayer, but I still wanna support good up and coming bands. To Farewell Fighter: I recommended yours, can I still recommend John’s ? :D

[Flash 9 is required to listen to audio.]Still can’t get over how John Mayer uses his guitar to speak of incredible yearning, loneliness, sensuality and despair in this song. Never fails to make my heart give a startled, painful leap. Ok, ok, maybe it doesn’t actually leap, but it gives a pretty good impression of leaping.
What is it about music that it speaks of feelings that mere words can’t even begin to say?

Saw John Mayer extolling the virtues of Tumblr on his blog, and hey, whatever the guy pushes has to be good, right? Okay, now I sound like a ditzy fan. Anyway, here’s me trying it out. Don’t know if I’ll like it. Just testing the waters.
Sleep-deprived, swamped with work, bad smoker’s cough, badly needing a manicure, and yet… I don’t know if it’s just me, but the lure of putting oneself out there, even if its through something that probably won’t be noticed by most, is strong. Guess it feeds my ego.
